Cross Referencing

Within the Information Retrieval System one can also make use of Cross Referencing where one can provide Search Results that do not literally the Query String but are closely related to the Query Content. Here one might apply Domain Ontologies for determining related Concepts or apply statistical Analysis for large Text Corpora like the Wikipedia to find the Relations among the Terms one is looking for. For example one has a Term in a Query String and one does Named Entity Recognition and map this term to the DBpedia Entity. In the DBpedia one will find for example find other entities with similar Properties. Thus, Cross Referencing would get additional Information or Results that are connected to these other Entities that are closely related to the Original Query. So this would be some kind of Semantic Extension of the original Query and here the Semantics must be inside the Information Retrieval System to complement the original Results that come from Cross Connections.

  • Provide Search Results that do not literally contain the Query String but are closely related to the Query by Content
    • Apply Domain Ontologies for determining related Concepts
    • Apply Statistical Analysis of large (Text) Document Corpora
