Budding yeast

Scientific name: Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Taxonomy ID: 4932
Common name: Budding yeast
Short name: Yeast
Alternative names: Brewer's yeast, Lager beer yeast, Baker's yeast

Description:

The tiny budding yeast is a single-cellular eukaryotic organism which replicates via asymmetric cell division. It exhibits two forms of aging: one which limits its ability to produce daughter cells to around 20 cell divisions (replicative lifespan) and another one which determines how long it can stay in the stationary phase (i.e. without division; chronological lifespan).
