Symbol: lin-40
Name: abnormal cell LINeage 40
Alias: let-432; egr-1; EGl-27 Related
Entrez gene ID: 178788
Ensembl gene ID: T27C4.4
Species: Worm (Taxid: 6239)

Functional description:
Protein LIN-40; abnormal cell LINeage family member (lin-40) [Source:RefSeq peptide;Acc:NP_504032] [Ensembl]; lin-40 encodes a homolog of mammalian MTA (Metastasis-Associated) proteins, components of the multisubunit, ATP-dependent NuRD complex that mediates transcriptional repression via nucleosome remodeling and histone deacetylation; lin-40 is an essential gene required for proper vulval cell fate specification and morphogenesis; in addition, lin-40 acts with its paralog, egl-27, in regulating posterior ventral hypodermal cell fate specification and embryonic patterning; targets of lin-40 regulation likely include lin-39, which encodes a homeodomain protein also required for vulval cell fate specification. [WormBase]

Observation:

RNA interference decreases median lifespan by 24% in wild-type animals, 38% in a daf-2 background and 24% in daf-2/daf-16 double mutants [18006689].
