ctl-1

Symbol: ctl-1
Name: CaTaLase 1
Entrez gene ID: 259738
Ensembl gene ID: Y54G11A.6
Species: Worm (Taxid: 6239)

Functional description:
Occurs in almost all aerobically respiring organisms and serves to protect cells from the toxic effects of hydrogen peroxide. Responsible for the increase in catalase activity detected in dauer larvae. May act as a general scavenger of hydrogen peroxide in the cytosol, or it may protect cells from the effects of an unknown, dauer-specific metabolic process. Expression may be directly regulated by daf-16. [UniProt]

Observation:

ctl-1 loss of function shortens lifespan to 77% of wild-type animals. ctl-1 mutants accumulate fluorescent material faster than wild-type, indicating accelerated aging [12610632]. ctl-1 mutation prevents lifespan extension by daf-2 or clk-1. Mutation of ctl-1 reudces catalase activty by 50% [10335847]. All these results have been retracted.
