UBR2

Symbol: UBR2
Name: E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase UBR2
Entrez gene ID: 850711
Ensembl gene ID: YLR024C
Species: Yeast (Taxid: 4932)

Functional description:
Ubr2p; Cytoplasmic ubiquitin-protein ligase (E3); required for ubiquitylation of Rpn4p; mediates formation of a Mub1p-Ubr2p-Rad6p complex [Source:SGD;Acc:S000004014] [Ensembl]

Observation:

Deletion of E3 ubiquitin ligase UBR2 extends mean and maximum replicative lifespan by 30 - 67% (30,67,61,34) and 15 - 38% (15,38,33,18). Cells lacking UBR2 had an increased transcription of proteasomal genes, both for components of the RP (RPN11 and RPT2) and the CP (PRE1 and PRE6). Increased transcription of proteasomal genes resulted in elevated protein levels of RP and CP subunits. Rpn4 stabilization is necessary but not sufficient for a positive effect on lifespan, because compromised proteasome function, induced by loss of PRE9, prevents lifespan extension in ubr2Delta cells. ubr2Delta cells retain the ability to enhance longevity in a strain lacking both SIR2 and FOB1. UBR2 deletion extends the lifespan of yap1Delta [21931558].
