Telomerase

Telomerase is a ribonucleoprotein that exhibits reverse transcriptase and terminal transferase activity.

Mice express telomerase in somatic and germline tissues, while humans almost exclusively express telomerase in the germline. Consequently, when telomeres reach a critical length the cells enter irreversible growth arrest [17173545].
