Aging Differentially Regulated Protein Import Into Choloplasts

Proteins imported into chloroplasts can be divided into three groups: one prefers to be imported into very young chloroplasts, the second one has no special preference and the third group prefer to be imported into older chloroplasts. For each protein the age-selective signal is located within the signal peptide that controls organelle import. Similar kind of regulation might exist for other organelles in other organisms, such as in the mitochondria of humans.
